Manly Kitchen Renovation

Project Overview
The Client Brief
Our clients were looking to restore a newly purchased, historic house into a family home embracing its original charm. Over 100 years old, the building was most recently a boarding house with multiple kitchens. Now they desired to create a modern family home able to accommodate their large family with a more open plan flow.
The Challenge
The existing kitchen was situated in the smallest room in the centre of the house stifled from any natural light or connection to any other room other than an old bathroom, still tiled with a shower, and a sunroom housing an oven and fridge. The 3x3m kitchen could not accommodate enough storage and space for its new family.
The Design Solution
Kitchenkraft proposed relocating the kitchen to the back of the house to engage with the breathtaking views over Manly ocean, creating an open plan, large family kitchen. This allowed the existing kitchen to be split into a mudroom and home office, while the old bathroom was able to be adapted into a much-needed laundry.
The Result
Our client’s home is now a well-functioning family hub with the kitchen at the heart of the home. With a 3m island in the large, open-plan kitchen the whole family can now spend time together enjoying the views over Manly Beach. The kitchen feels subtle within the space by integrating the fridge and appliance pantry, while creating a mudroom that caters to the overflow of daily life. As an added bonus, the creation of a laundry has made for a now enjoyable and functional home without the need for any major structural changes.
